Yoweri Museveni
About Yoweri Museveni
The Ugandan President who has ruled since 1986, one of the longest serving leaders in Africa. Museveni came to power after a five year bush war. He initially restored stability and economic growth to Uganda. Over time, he eliminated term limits and age limits to extend his rule. Musevenis government passed one of the worlds harshest anti homosexuality laws in 2023. His rule became increasingly authoritarian, with opposition leaders arrested and beaten. His son Muhoozi Kainerugaba is widely seen as his successor, raising concerns about a dynastic succession. Museveni won disputed elections in 2021 amid violence and internet shutdowns.
