About James Madison
The Father of the Constitution and fourth President. Madison was the principal architect of the US Constitution and co authored the Federalist Papers. His presidency was defined by the War of 1812 against Britain, during which British forces burned Washington DC. The war ended in a draw but established American sovereignty. Madison was a brilliant political theorist who transitioned from advocating strong federal government to supporting states rights. His wife Dolley Madison saved valuable items from the White House before it was burned.
