About William McKinley
The twenty fifth President who led America into international prominence. McKinleys presidency saw the Spanish American War of 1898, which gave the US overseas territories including the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Guam. He was assassinated by an anarchist in 1901 and succeeded by Theodore Roosevelt. McKinley ran on protective tariffs and gold standard monetary policy. His campaign manager Mark Hanna pioneered modern campaign fundraising. McKinleys assassination led to Secret Service protection for presidents. The mountain Denali was named Mount McKinley from 1917 to 2015.
