William Howard Taft
About William Howard Taft
The twenty seventh President and later Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the only person to hold both positions. Taft was reluctant about the presidency, preferring law. He was pushed into it by his wife and Theodore Roosevelt. His presidency saw the creation of the Department of Labor. Taft was overweight, famously getting stuck in the White House bathtub. After his presidency he became Chief Justice, which he called his greatest honor. Taft successfully pursued antitrust lawsuits, filing 80 in one term compared to Roosevelts 44 in two terms.
