Theodore Roosevelt
About Theodore Roosevelt
The twenty sixth President and the youngest to assume office at age 42. Roosevelt was a dynamic force who busted trusts, conserved millions of acres of wilderness, and built the Panama Canal. His Square Deal domestic program regulated food and drugs through the Pure Food and Drug Act. Roosevelt won the Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating the end of the Russo Japanese War. After his presidency he ran as the Bull Moose Party candidate in 1912, splitting the Republican vote. He was shot during a campaign speech but finished speaking before seeking medical attention.
