Richard Nixon
About Richard Nixon
The thirty seventh President, the only one to resign from office. Nixons presidency saw the opening of relations with China, arms control with the Soviet Union, and the end of American combat in Vietnam. But the Watergate scandal, stemming from a break in at Democratic headquarters, consumed his second term. Facing certain impeachment and conviction, Nixon resigned on August 9, 1974. He was later pardoned by Gerald Ford. Nion was a brilliant but paranoid figure whose achievements in foreign policy were overshadowed by the corruption of Watergate. He spent his later years rehabilitating his reputation as an elder statesman.
