About Olof Palme

The Swedish Prime Minister assassinated in 1986. Palme was a prominent international figure who opposed the Vietnam War, supported Third World liberation movements, and advocated nuclear disarmament. He was known for walking without bodyguards in Stockholm. Palme was shot on a street corner after visiting a cinema with his wife. The assassination shocked Sweden and the world. The killer was not identified until 2020 when investigators concluded it was Stig Engstrom, a graphic designer who had died in 2000. Palmes murder ended Swedens tradition of politicians living openly without security.
