About Muammar Gaddafi
The Libyan dictator who ruled for 42 years after seizing power in a military coup. Gaddafi nationalized Libyas oil wealth and used it for extensive social programs at home and sponsorship of terrorism abroad. He sponsored the 1988 Lockerbie bombing. Gaddafi styled himself as the King of Kings of Africa and lived in a Bedouin tent. After the Arab Spring in 2011, a NATO backed rebellion overthrew his regime. Gaddafi was captured and killed by rebel fighters in October 2011. His death was filmed and widely shared, a brutal end to four decades of rule.
