Lyndon B Johnson
About Lyndon B Johnson
The thirty sixth President who succeeded Kennedy and passed the most sweeping domestic legislation since the New Deal. Johnsons Great Society programs included Medicare, Medicaid, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. However, his escalation of the Vietnam War destroyed his presidency. Johnson was a master legislator who knew how to get bills through Congress. His treatment of the press and his crude manner were legendary. He chose not to run for reelection in 1968, saying he would not seek and would not accept the nomination.
