About Jimmy Carter

The thirty ninth President who has had the longest and most active post presidency in American history. Carter brokered the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt in 1978. His presidency was challenged by the Iran Hostage Crisis and an energy crisis. Carter lost reelection to Ronald Reagan in 1980. After leaving office, he founded the Carter Center, dedicated to democracy promotion and disease eradication. Carter received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. He built homes with Habitat for Humanity for decades. Carter was the first president born in a hospital. He lived to be 100 years old, the longest lived president.
