About Jacinda Ardern

The New Zealand Prime Minister from 2017 to 2023. Ardern became the worlds youngest female head of government at 37. Her compassionate response to the 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings, wearing a hijab while meeting the Muslim community, earned global admiration. She led New Zealand through COVID 19 with an elimination strategy that kept cases extremely low. Ardern also addressed climate change and child poverty. She resigned unexpectedly in 2023, saying she no longer had enough in the tank. Ardern was praised for empathetic, modern leadership but faced economic challenges and rising opposition in her final year.
