About Harry S Truman

The thirty third President who made some of the momentous decisions in history. Truman authorized the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, ending World War II. He implemented the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe and the Berlin Airlift. Truman desegregated the military in 1948. His presidency saw the beginning of the Cold War and the Korean War. Truman was vice president for only 82 days before FDRs death. The famous sign on his desk read The Buck Stops Here. He won a stunning upset election in 1948 against Thomas Dewey, defying newspaper predictions.
