George W Bush
About George W Bush
The forty third President whose presidency was transformed by the September 11 attacks. Bush launched the War on Terror, invading Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003. His presidency saw the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and the Patriot Act. The Iraq War, based on claims of weapons of mass destruction that were not found, became increasingly controversial. Bush also presided over the 2008 financial crisis, authorizing the Troubled Asset Relief Program or TARP bailout. Bush won a second term in 2004 despite controversy over the Iraq War. His presidency remains polarizing, with strong supporters and critics.
