About Daniel Webster
One of the greatest senators in American history and a three time presidential candidate. Webster was renowned for his soaring oratory. His Liberty and Union, now and forever, one and inseparable speech is considered one of the greatest in American history. Webster served as Secretary of State under three presidents. He was a passionate advocate for the Union in the decades before the Civil War. Webster compromised with slave states in the Compromise of 1850, damaging his reputation among abolitionists. He died in 1852, never achieving his goal of the presidency.
