Calvin Coolidge
About Calvin Coolidge
The thirtieth President known as Silent Cal for his brevity. Coolidge was sworn in by his father by kerosene lamp after Hardings death. His presidency was marked by economic prosperity and a philosophy of minimal government intervention. Coolidges laissez faire policies contributed to the economic bubble that burst in the Great Crash of 1929. He famously said the business of America is business. Coolidge chose not to run for reelection in 1928, stating simply I do not choose to run. His austerity and tax cuts are still cited by conservative economists.
