About Benjamin Harrison

The twenty third President and grandson of William Henry Harrison. Harrison signed the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890, the first federal law against monopolies. His administration also saw the admission of six western states to the Union. Harrison lost the popular vote to Cleveland in 1888 but won the electoral vote. In 1892 he lost to Cleveland again, making Cleveland the only president to serve split terms. Harrison was called the Human Iceberg for his stiff manner. His presidency saw the highest protective tariff in American history, the McKinley Tariff.
