Theresa May
About Theresa May
The second female Prime Minister, who took office after the Brexit referendum. Mays premiership was consumed by trying to deliver Brexit. Her withdrawal agreement was defeated in Parliament three times by the largest margins in history. May was a competent Home Secretary but struggled as Prime Minister with the impossible task of uniting her party and Parliament around a Brexit deal. She resigned in 2019 after failing to deliver Brexit, replaced by Boris Johnson. Her memorable line Brexit means Brexit became a symbol of her struggles.
