Rishi Sunak
About Rishi Sunak
The first British Asian and Hindu Prime Minister. Sunak, a former hedge fund manager and Chancellor of the Exchequer, took over after Liz Trusss disastrous 49 days. He stabilized the economy but struggled politically with a divided party and an electorate tired of Conservative rule. Sunak was the youngest Prime Minister in over a century at age 42. His wife Akshata Murty, daughter of an Indian billionaire, faced controversy over her non domiciled tax status. Sunak called an early election in July 2024 and lost to Labour leader Keir Starmer.
