About Pierre Trudeau
One of the most influential Canadian Prime Ministers, serving from 1968 to 1979 and 1980 to 1984. Trudeau patriated the Canadian Constitution from Britain in 1982 and added the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. He was a flamboyant intellectual who drove sports cars, dated celebrities, and wore sandals in Parliament. Trudeau implemented official bilingualism and multiculturalism policy. His handling of the 1970 FLQ crisis, invoking the War Measures Act, was controversial. His son Justin Trudeau became Prime Minister in 2015. Pierre Trudeau defined modern Canadian identity.
