Neville Chamberlain
About Neville Chamberlain
The Prime Minister remembered for appeasing Hitler at Munich in 1938. Chamberlain returned from Munich declaring peace for our time. The following year, Hitler invaded Poland and Britain declared war. Chamberlains appeasement policy has become a byword for the dangers of confronting aggression with concessions. He resigned in May 1940 after the failure of the Norway campaign and was replaced by Churchill. Chamberlain was a decent man who made a catastrophic misjudgment about Hitler. He died of cancer in November 1940, just months after leaving office.
