Liz Truss
About Liz Truss
The Prime Minister with the shortest tenure in British history, lasting just 49 days in office. Truss replaced Boris Johnson in September 2022. Her mini budget, which proposed massive unfunded tax cuts, triggered financial market chaos, crashed the pound, and forced an emergency Bank of England intervention. Truss fired her Chancellor and reversed most of her policies before resigning. She was replaced by Rishi Sunak. Truss became a figure of ridicule and her brief tenure is studied as a case study in economic policy failure. She remains a backbench MP.
