About Hosni Mubarak

The Egyptian president who ruled for 30 years. Mubarak took office after Anwar Sadats assassination. He maintained peace with Israel and allied with the West. His regime was marked by corruption, police brutality, and suppression of opposition. Mubarak was overthrown in the 2011 Arab Spring. He was tried for complicity in killing protesters and sentenced to life imprisonment, later acquitted on appeal. Mubarak died in 2020. His 30 year rule represented the stability and stagnation of authoritarian Arab governance.
