About Ferdinand Marcos
The Philippine dictator who ruled from 1965 to 1986, including 14 years under martial law. Marcos and his wife Imelda looted billions from the Philippine treasury. Imelda became famous for her enormous shoe collection of over 3,000 pairs. The Marcos regime tortured and killed thousands of opponents. A peaceful People Power Revolution in 1986 forced Marcos into exile in Hawaii. He died in 1989. In a controversial turn, his son Ferdinand Marcos Jr was elected President of the Philippines in 2022, completing a remarkable political rehabilitation of the family name.
