The French President from 1995 to 2007. Chirac opposed the Iraq War in 2003, earning widespread admiration. He was known as a bon vivant who loved food, African art, and sumo wrestling. Chirac reduced the presidential term from 7 to 5 years. After leaving office, he was convicted of corruption related to his time as Mayor of Paris, receiving a suspended sentence. He was the first former French president convicted of a crime. Chirac died in 2019. He was known as the Bulldozer for his political persistence.
