About Daniel arap Moi
The second President of Kenya, who ruled for 24 years from 1978 to 2002. Moi succeeded Jomo Kenyatta and initially promised reform. His regime became increasingly authoritarian, with torture of political opponents and rigged elections. Mois rule was marked by corruption and economic decline. International pressure forced him to allow multiparty elections in 1991, but he won flawed elections in 1992 and 1997. Moi finally stepped down in 2002. He died in 2020. His legacy is one of missed opportunities and entrenched corruption that set back Kenyan development by decades.
